Methodology v0.9

Detailed methodology, positioning and limitations

Positioning

Each dimension is positioned independently between Gateway and Partner. No aggregate score or comparative ranking is produced.

Evidence

Use demonstrated behaviour, institutional precedent and durable infrastructure—not stated intention alone.

Interpretation

The output shows the shape of the relationship and where institutional depth could develop.

Limitations

The framework supports structured judgement. It is not investment, legal or policy advice.

The thesis

Gateway relationships intermediate transactions. Partner relationships compound institutions.

A gateway facilitates episodic flow. A partnership builds durable architecture across capital, relationships, talent, regulation and trust. Neither position is inherently superior; the framework makes the distinction visible.

01 Capital Is capital episodic and transaction-led, or aligned with long-term institutional conviction?

The test

Examine duration, repeat deployment, institutional depth, local capital formation and willingness to invest before an opportunity becomes consensus.

Evidence of Gateway

Deployment follows individual opportunities or announcements. Each transaction is negotiated independently, and capital withdraws during risk-off periods.

Evidence of Partnership

Investors deploy repeatedly across cycles, commit capital at institutional duration and contribute to local capital formation.

Evidence question

Which investors have deployed here more than once, and what brought them back?

02 Institutional Relationships Do relationships extend beyond intermediaries to institutions with genuine decision authority?

The test

Examine decision-maker engagement, institutional continuity, principal-level participation and whether relationships survive individual mandates.

Evidence of Gateway

Access depends on a small number of intermediaries. Relationships reset when individuals leave and engagement remains at advisory level.

Evidence of Partnership

Principals engage directly, institutions maintain continuity and relationships remain active between transactions.

Evidence question

If the people who broker this relationship left tomorrow, what would remain?

03 Talent Is talent flow one-directional, or does the relationship create durable two-way corridors?

The test

Examine mobility, skills exchange, leadership, professional networks, qualification recognition and talent circulation.

Evidence of Gateway

Talent moves in one direction, qualifications are recognised asymmetrically and senior roles rarely cross markets.

Evidence of Partnership

Senior people move in both directions, experience is recognised across markets and leadership includes people who have operated in both.

Evidence question

How many senior people have moved in each direction, and how many returned?

04 Regulatory Architecture Does regulation merely permit transactions, or facilitate cross-market institution-building?

The test

Examine regulatory interoperability, business formation, market access, capital movement, professional mobility and operating infrastructure.

Evidence of Gateway

Each cross-border structure requires bespoke negotiation, recognition is discretionary and regulation permits investment while obstructing operating presence.

Evidence of Partnership

Institutions can establish and operate in both markets through known processes, with practical regulatory recognition and no repeated need for exemptions.

Evidence question

Could an institution operate in both markets without a bespoke regulatory arrangement?

05 Networks of Trust Are relationships activated around individual deals, or continuously compounded between them?

The test

Examine continuity, repeat interaction, institutional trust, knowledge networks and standing relationship infrastructure.

Evidence of Gateway

Engagement is episodic and deal-driven. Each transaction begins with new introductions and there is no standing relationship infrastructure.

Evidence of Partnership

Convening continues between transactions, knowledge circulates through established institutions and counterparties know one another before a transaction begins.

Evidence question

What happens in this relationship during a year when no significant transaction takes place?
